Sound Absorption Made From 100% Polyester Board
The acoustics industry is steadily integrating sustainable solutions for sound absorption applications.
ARCHITECT, the journal of the American Institute of Architects recently selected acoustical ceiling baffles to appear in their 2021 Sustainable Product Call. Featured alongside other environmentally-friendly products such as Polywood Adirondack chairs, carbon-neutral carpets, and recycled wallcoverings, acoustical ceiling baffles can effectively achieve noise reduction and meet the demand for sustainable solutions in equal measure.
So how does it look? Most designers and restaurant owners who are seeking sustainable acoustic solutions are also concerned about aesthetics. For this reason, acoustical products made with a yellow or brown fiberglass core need to be wrapped or encapsulated as part of the manufacturing process. However, Polyester Board is pure white and very clean. Now a standard sustainable option in the MBI product line, this product is 100% polyester and made in part from recycled fibers. These panels are pure and 100% recyclable, formaldehyde-free, and contain no chemical additives.
Beyond these environmental advantages, the flame-resistant polyester material, rated at Class 1 and Class A, also resists moisture, bacteria, and fungi. The panels are durable, yet lightweight and easy to handle because the fibers are gentle on the skin. As a result, no protective gear is required during the transport or installation of polyester board acoustical panels.
As for acoustical performance, this table illustrates the Polyester Board’s absorption coefficient — the percentage of sound absorbed, measured at incremental cycles (Hz).
To assess the sound absorption of these acoustical panels, they were tested at Riverbank Acoustical Laboratories. With a staff of experts and advanced equipment, including six reverberation chambers, this facility was able to perform testing and analysis to ensure that they meet industry-established standards and guidelines.
Tests performed on polyester board acoustical panels in the reverberation chambers are monitored in a central control room.
